Twenty years on, fans are still hoping for the return of Sam Raimi’s universe.
It’s been eighteen years since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 hit theaters, yet speculation about a potential follow-up persists. Momentum was recently reignited by Mattson Tomlin, co-writer of Matt Reeves’s screenplay for The Batman: Part II, who has on several occasions voiced interest in directing Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire. In Tomlin’s concept, the fourth installment would explore Peter Parker juggling life as a superhero, a husband, and a father.
This time Tomlin responded to a question on social media, admitting that his ideas are still under discussion, albeit progressing very slowly.
“Slow and steady wins the race. For the foreseeable future — if ever — there’s nothing concrete I can share. A lot of people, politics, and circumstances beyond my control are involved. But I haven’t been told ‘no’ yet.”
In short, the project remains unresolved: production has not been officially greenlit, yet Tomlin hasn’t received a definitive rejection. So the hope for Raimi’s universe to return endures.
