Matthew Lillard Stars in Prime Video Detective Thriller Bosch
From Alex Cross to Reacher, detective shows remain popular on television. The old formula combines a brilliant investigator, a nasty case, and solid suspects.
The greatest mysteries explore a fractured city through the eyes of a flawed detective. Michael Connelly wrote the Bosch novels, and the television adaptation pulls from multiple books rather than adapting them one at a time. Connelly explained that the show uses one novel as a spine while borrowing characters and pieces from elsewhere in the universe.
Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch is a jazz-loving homicide detective under the Los Angeles Police Department. Titus Welliver plays the stubborn and haunted investigator. The series follows Bosch as he investigates murders across Los Angeles while navigating department politics and court systems.

The Lucky Factor

Matthew Lillard plays Luke “Lucky” Goshen, a character from the 1997 novel Trunk Music. Goshen is eventually revealed to be Roy Lindell, an undercover FBI agent embedded in the Las Vegas mob. Lillard plays Goshen with sleaze, charm, and weirdness.

Lillard appears in eight episodes and projects an aggressively casual energy. Goshen gets caught in the middle of an investigation when a gun turns up in his toilet tank. Instead of acting like a cornered suspect, Goshen accuses the detective of planting the weapon.
The dynamic flips when the truth about Goshen emerges. The Vegas hustler is replaced by Roy Lindell, an FBI agent operating deep undercover.

The strength of Bosch lies in its ecosystem. Mainstays like Jerry Edgar, Grace Billets, Irving, and Crate and Barrel appear alongside wildcards like Goshen. Connelly noted how characters who felt thin on the page blossomed on screen.
Lillard injects the narrative with unpredictable swagger. Harry Bosch serves as the anchor, while characters like Luke Goshen make the universe feel alive.
Reacher is streaming on Prime Video.
