The Marvel Rivals development team is intensifying its crackdown on competitive sabotage in ranked matches. NetEase Games has announced the implementation of a new compensation system for affected players alongside significantly harsher penalties for those who intentionally throw games.
This new mechanic, dubbed the “Victim Compensation Protocol,” aims to balance the scales for those caught in the crossfire of poor sportsmanship. In a statement released on X, the developers confirmed that the system is specifically designed to provide restitution to players left at a numerical disadvantage due to teammates abandoning their post.
The move addresses the toxic trend of “tactical quitting,” where players exit matches during pivotal moments, forcing their remaining teammates to fight an uphill battle. This disruptive behavior often results in unfair losses and the unwarranted drainage of Rank Points for innocent competitors.
NetEase Games emphasized that these updates are a direct result of listening to community feedback. The studio pledged not only to suppress exploitative practices but also to actively compensate victims of match-griefing. While the exact nature of the compensation—such as Rank Point restoration, in-game currency, or other perks—is yet to be finalized, more details will emerge when the full update is deployed.
