In the animated series “Marvel Zombies,” Blade’s on-screen likeness was modeled after Mahershala Ali, but the character is voiced by Todd Williams.
In the animated miniseries “Marvel Zombies,” which premiered on Disney+ in late September, Blade appears with a visual design that mirrors Mahershala Ali’s cinematic portrayal. However, the voice heard in the series belongs to another actor — Todd Williams — a choice that prompted questions from viewers and led the studio’s producers to offer an explanation.
Speaking with POC Culture, Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television and Animation, said that Ali’s involvement was not possible due to logistical reasons.
“It was strictly a matter of timing,” Winderbaum noted. “We would have loved for him to voice the character, but the schedules simply didn’t line up,” added Brian Andrews, one of the series’ creators.
Despite the substitution for the animated project, Marvel has confirmed that Mahershala Ali remains the designated actor for Blade in forthcoming cinematic-universe installments. The feature film centered on the character, originally announced in 2019, is still in development, though no release date has been set.
