The electronic music world caught a major surprise this Friday at Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium, as superstar DJ Martin Garrix treated festival-goers to the world premiere of his latest project: a powerful collaboration with rock legends U2 titled “Fireflies.”
The atmosphere at the De Schorre main stage reached a fever pitch when The Edge joined Garrix during his closing set. The U2 guitarist delivered his signature, soaring fretwork live on stage, while Bono’s unmistakable vocals powered the track’s debut performance.
Sharing the electrifying moment with his followers, Garrix posted a snippet of the performance on Instagram, confirming that “Fireflies” is slated for an upcoming release. Fans eager to get an early jump can already pre-save the single across major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
This track marks the latest chapter in a long-standing creative partnership between the DJ and the Irish rock icons. Previously, the trio teamed up for “We Are the People,” the official anthem of UEFA Euro 2020, which resonated heavily on the Billboard charts. Their history runs deep, with Garrix producing “Your Song Saved My Life” for the Sing 2 soundtrack and Bono contributing his songwriting talents to several of Garrix’s solo projects.
While industry insiders wait for confirmation on whether “Fireflies” will feature on an upcoming studio album from either artist, the momentum is palpable. U2 is currently preparing for the release of their highly anticipated follow-up to 2017’s Songs of Experience, recently teasing the project with their new single, “Street of Dreams.”
