It appears that Call of Duty: Black Ops and its successor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, may be poised for a comeback. Recent filings with South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) indicate that both titles—originally released in 2010 and 2012, respectively—have been submitted for new ratings. While the documentation is sparse, the move suggests that Activision is preparing to revisit these iconic entries.

Although the GRAC listings lack specific details regarding supported platforms or potential enhancements, the timing aligns with persistent industry chatter suggesting that remastered versions of the Black Ops series are currently in the works. Unverified reports suggest these revivals could arrive as a bundled package or as standalone purchases, with rumors even pointing toward a release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

While Activision has yet to confirm these plans, the publisher has a history of breathing new life into its back catalog, most notably with the 2016 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. This strategy could be a prudent pivot following the lukewarm reception of 2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Despite being a commercial success, that title’s performance prompted developers at Treyarch and Activision to re-evaluate their long-term roadmap for the franchise.
