Luminary Developer’s AI Voice Criticism Addressed as Wife’s Voice

The developer of the cooperative action RPG Luminary has assured players that he is married to a real human being rather than an AI avatar.

Luminary was released on PC via Steam this summer. The project did not become a massive hit, as its peak concurrent player count nearly reached 400 at launch before quickly losing its audience. Recently, the player count has failed to reach even 10 users.

However, anti-AI advocates took notice of Luminary in September. Some individuals believe the game uses voice acting generated by artificial intelligence.

The developer responded to a negative review on Steam by stating that the voice belongs to his wife:

Although my wife might not be the best voice actress (this was her first time doing something like that), I can assure you: she is a real person and not an AI. We do not use AI in our game at all — we are just indie developers doing our thing with the resources we have.

The creator of Luminary then published a screenshot of his response on social media with the caption:

My wife is a living person, honestly! Do people nowadays really hear a voice in an indie game that doesn’t sound up to AAA project standards and automatically start thinking, “This was generated by AI”?

Judging by SteamDB data, this incident involving mistaken accusations of AI usage has not yet brought players to Luminary, but at least a few users have learned about the project’s existence.
