Lizzo Fires Back at Viral Body-Shaming in Candid Instagram Post

Lizzo responded forcefully to online mockery of her body on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, using her official Instagram to call out trolls who circulated a viral “fat joke” about her.

Posting a photo of herself relaxing in a yellow-and-black snakeskin bikini, she denounced the ridicule and reminded followers that no one should be shamed for their appearance. In the caption she wrote that people will criticize you whether you gain or lose weight, and that your body belongs to you, not to others’ opinions.

She made her stance unmistakable: whether she gets a cosmetic procedure, loses a large amount of weight, or regains pounds, it’s nobody else’s business. In characteristic fashion, she closed the caption with a confident, defiant line about keeping her life — and her home — intact despite the commentary.

Lizzo has long weathered public scrutiny about her size throughout her mainstream pop career. Earlier in 2025 she discussed trying Ozempic and ultimately choosing to change her diet as part of a personal weight-loss decision, an anecdote she shared on Trisha Paytas’ Just Trish podcast.

Her Instagram rebuttal followed a Substack essay she published on Monday, Dec. 1, titled “Cancel Me (Again): A ‘Cancelled’ Woman’s Take on Why Everyone Should Get Cancelled at Least Once.” In a Dec. 3 follow-up, Lizzo acknowledged that not everyone agreed with the piece and emphasized her right to self-expression — including the right to be imperfect and unpopular at times.

Despite the turbulence of the year, Lizzo has remained musically active. In June she released the mixtape My Face Hurts from Smiling, featuring collaborations with Doja Cat and SZA and a remix of PLUTO & YK Niece’s viral track “Whim Whamiee.” She later appeared on Cardi B’s Am I the Drama? (“What’s Goin On”) and Monaleo’s Who Did the Body (“Freak Show”).

Below is Lizzo’s full Instagram response as posted on Dec. 4, 2025.

Today I saw a fat joke about me — in 2025 — and it was viral. It was a dumb joke and they were laughing at me because I’m fat. Let this be a reminder: never let anyone shame you for what you choose to do with your body. When you’re big, they talk. When you’re small, they talk. Your body is not for them. It’s for you.

If I get a BBL, mind your business; if I lose 100 lbs, mind your business. If I gain every pound back and then some, mind your f—ing business. Anyways — my fat a— stays living with a paid-off mortgage in y’all b—es’ heads.
