Following a sudden dizzy spell that forced him to cut his opening night performance short, music icon Lionel Richie has officially postponed his next two tour dates to prioritize his recovery.
Live Nation Chicago released a statement on Thursday, June 25, confirming that the legendary singer—who has topped the Billboard Hot 100 on five separate occasions—will delay his upcoming appearances in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. These cancellations are a direct result of medical advice, which mandates a period of rest to ensure he returns to full strength. Currently, his scheduled performance in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 30, remains set to proceed as planned.
“Lionel is deeply disappointed to put these shows on hold and is eager to return to the stage for his fans,” the statement noted. “We sincerely apologize for any disruption this may cause those holding tickets. Further information regarding rescheduled dates will be shared shortly.”
Representatives for the artist have been contacted for additional updates.
The health concern arose during the kickoff of his joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in St. Paul, Minnesota. Witnesses report that Richie felt lightheaded while on stage and attempted to push through the set before eventually stepping away to call for an intermission. Roughly 40 minutes later, the crowd was informed by saxophonist Dino Soldo that the star was unable to complete the evening’s performance.
Fans awaiting the Chicago and Columbus shows—originally set for Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27—are advised to keep their tickets as new dates are finalized.
