Dragon Quest VII Reimagined headlines the newest issue of Game Informer. If you know the series’ pedigree, you’ll recall this marks the second full remake of Dragon Quest VII by Square Enix.
The original Dragon Quest VII debuted in Japan for PlayStation in 2000 (released in the U.S. as Dragon Warrior VII a year later). Square Enix later reworked the title for Nintendo 3DS as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past — first in Japan in 2013 and then in Western markets in 2016. Now the game is being rebuilt again as Reimagined, with platforms announced including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
It’s uncommon for a single entry to receive multiple large-scale remakes, so we assembled two image galleries that line up the same scene across the original, the 3DS conversion, and the new Reimagined build so you can see how the visuals evolved.

The contrast between each incarnation is striking — differences in hardware, artistic direction, and technical capabilities produce markedly different atmospheres.
