Lego Smart Play Launches Alongside New Star Wars Sets

Following its initial reveal at the Consumer Electronics Show, LEGO’s innovative Smart Play ecosystem has officially hit the market. Debuting on March 1, the inaugural wave features eight Star Wars-themed sets that bridge the gap between traditional building and digital interactivity. By integrating specialized sensors, dynamic lighting, and authentic sound effects, these builds offer a more immersive experience than ever before. While your classic collection remains timeless, these tech-enhanced models are certainly worth a closer look.
The core of this experience lies within the sophisticated Smart Play bricks. During our hands-on preview at CES, the potential for creative play was immediately evident. The excitement has only intensified with the announcement of the Mos Eisley Cantina—a compatible set that allows builders to trigger the iconic melodies of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes at the touch of a button.
While the potential for Smart Play spans countless themes, the Star Wars universe provides the perfect launchpad, where lightsabers and galactic dogfights benefit immensely from audio-visual enhancements. With eight distinct sets currently available, enthusiasts can already construct a vibrant, interactive galaxy.
Note: “Compatible” sets require a Smart Play power brick, which is sold separately or included in the flagship starter sets.

Early feedback from the community has been varied. While the technology is a significant draw for younger builders, some adult collectors have expressed a desire for more intricate, complex builds to match the high-tech integration. Noted LEGO reviewer MandRproductions highlighted Yoda’s Hut as a standout, praising its high level of detail and playability even for those who choose not to utilize the Smart Play brick.
Looking ahead, LEGO has yet to reveal the next phase of this tech-driven line. While more Star Wars legends like a Smart Play Death Star are highly anticipated, there is significant potential for cross-over into other properties. With high-end Pokémon sets already on shelves and new Mandalorian & Grogu collections approaching, the possibility of a Smart Play Grogu or interactive Pikachu seems inevitable.
