Legacy of Kain Revival Canceled: Eidos Montréal Shut Down the Project — Rumor

According to former employees’ résumés, Eidos Montreal has cancelled a project intended to revive the Legacy of Kain series.

Per the résumés of gameplay director Samuel Daer and deputy design director Stuart Weller, the studio underwent layoffs and cancelled several projects the week prior. Among those was a fantasy action RPG emphasizing melee combat and parkour, positioned as a revival of a well-known vampire IP — likely the Legacy of Kain remake.

In 2024, the re-release Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC exceeded sales expectations. The collection featured higher-resolution textures, updated models and effects, a photo mode, refreshed camera and controls, and enhanced performance.

The project’s cancellation puts the franchise’s future in question despite the remaster’s commercial success.
