Leading Anime Studios Join Star Wars: Visions — New Trailer Debuts

Disney and Lucasfilm have released the trailer for Star Wars: Visions — Volume 3, which will stream exclusively on Disney+ on Oct. 29, 2025. Unlike the previous season’s international lineup, this third volume returns the anthology to Japan: all nine shorts are produced and directed by different Japanese anime studios.

The second season featured a broad mix of creators — from France’s Studio La Cachette (known for Love, Death & Robots) to U.K. stalwarts Aardman — but Volume 3 narrows the focus to homegrown anime talent. That concentration promises a distinct visual and narrative sensibility rooted in contemporary Japanese animation.

Established Visions contributors such as Kamikaze Douga, Production I.G., Studio Trigger, Project Studio Q, and Kinema Citrus are on the roster again. Joining them for the first time on Visions are Wit Studio, Project No.9, Polygon Pictures, and David Production — bringing an eclectic range of styles and storytelling approaches.

Wit Studio — the team behind Attack on Titan and notable works like Spy x Family — is attached to Episode 6, titled “The Bounty Hunters,” directed by Ken Yamamoto. While plot details remain scarce, Wit’s involvement suggests a kinetic, character-driven chapter that could shift away from strictly Force-centric themes.

David Production, the studio also developing the Steel Ball Run anime, handles Episode 9, titled “BLACK.” Polygon’s preview screening at AnimeNYC described the short as highly experimental: a blend of psychedelic imagery, sparse dialogue, and a jazzy score by Fujiwara Sakura that evokes the seedy, otherworldly feel of Mos Eisley. The anthology also boasts a notable voice cast: George Takei, Simu Liu, Stephanie Hsu, Steve Buscemi, Anna Sawai, Freddie Highmore, Harvey Guillén, Judith Light, and a welcome return from Jodie Turner-Smith (known for her role as Mother Aniseya in The Acolyte).

With top-tier anime studios and a high-profile ensemble, Star Wars: Visions — Volume 3 looks poised to deliver fresh, stylistically bold takes on the galaxy far, far away. The full collection premieres on Disney+ on Oct. 29, 2025.
