Lanterns Scores Biggest Debut of Any DC Studios Project on HBO Max
The debut episode of Lanterns has achieved the biggest launch for any DC Studios production on HBO Max, also securing a spot among the platform’s top five series debuts of all time.
Over its first three days, the premiere pulled in 9.3 million viewers across the HBO cable network and the streaming platform. By comparison, The Penguin generated 10.4 million cross-platform views across its first 11 days in 2024.
This performance places Lanterns fourth among the largest new series launches in HBO Max history. It trails only the debut seasons of House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which drew 6.7 million viewers in its first three days in January 2026.

The series follows Green Lantern Corps recruit John Stewart and seasoned veteran Hal Jordan. The two intergalactic law enforcers investigate a murder in the American heartland, uncovering a conspiracy that extends far beyond Earth. Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler lead the cast.
Season 1 includes eight episodes. HBO has not yet officially renewed Lanterns, though showrunner Chris Mundy and writer Christopher Cantwell have spent roughly six weeks developing ideas for a potential follow-up season.
