Labrinth Issues Scathing Exit Statement, Blasting Columbia Records and HBO’s ‘Euphoria’

In an unexpected and volatile turn of events, acclaimed producer and singer Labrinth has launched a fierce verbal assault against his record label, the hit HBO series Euphoria, and the broader music industry. The artist took to social media on Friday, March 13, to share a series of blunt messages that suggest a definitive break from his current professional ties.

Utilizing a minimalist aesthetic—stark white, capitalized text against a pitch-black background—the songwriter’s Instagram post left no room for ambiguity. “I’M DONE WITH THIS INDUSTRY,” the message began. He then directed his ire toward his corporate partners, writing, “F–K COLUMBIA. DOUBLE F–K EUPHORIA.”

He concluded the brief but heavy-hitting statement with a final farewell: “I’M OUT. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT X.”

Representatives for Columbia Records and HBO have been contacted for clarification, along with Labrinth’s personal management, though no official responses have been issued at this time.

The timing of this outburst has left fans and industry insiders puzzled. Labrinth recently unveiled his latest project, Cosmic Opera Act I, in January under the Sony-owned Columbia imprint, which he has called home since 2019. Furthermore, as recently as March 4, he had been teasing new material with a cryptic “04.10.26” caption—widely believed to be a lead-in to his score for the third season of Euphoria, scheduled to debut on April 12.

Since the show’s inception in 2019, Labrinth has been the sonic architect behind Euphoria, working in close tandem with creator Sam Levinson. His contributions have been both critical and commercial successes; notably, the track “I’m Tired,” featuring lead actress Zendaya, climbed to No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Reflecting on his role in a 2022 interview, Labrinth seemed to relish the creative challenges the show provided. “I don’t think I was excited about composing for a TV show, honestly speaking,” he admitted. “But the thing that excited me the most was Sam’s passion… It felt like method acting with music. One minute you’re making funk and then the next you’re making a Vivaldi piece; for me, that was super fun.”

Before becoming a household name through his work with HBO, Labrinth first emerged in 2010 with the hit “Let the Sun Shine.” His debut album, Electronic Earth, followed in 2012 during his tenure with Simon Cowell’s Syco label, prior to his transition to the Columbia roster.
