It is rare to see world leaders actively participating in the promotion of a pop record, but Katy Perry has never been one to follow the conventional path. The global superstar recently spotlighted her latest single, “Watch It Burn,” in a whimsical TikTok video featuring her partner, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who gamely offered his stamp of approval with some lighthearted choreography.
In the clip, shared this past Thursday (July 9), Perry is seen outdoors, channeling the energy of her mid-June release. As the track’s chorus hits, the singer begins bouncing in sync with the rhythm, quickly pulling a group of friends—and eventually, a joyful Trudeau—into the frame. The former politician appears clearly delighted, sporting a playful expression as he jumps along to the beat before skipping out of the shot.
“Ancient texts suggest that hopping to this track guarantees 1,000 years of good fortune,” Perry playfully noted in the video’s caption.
For Trudeau, the cameo serves as another display of his dedication to his partner. He previously made headlines for prioritizing his “supportive boyfriend duties,” famously skipping a major Canadian sporting event to cheer on Perry during her high-profile appearance at the U.S. vs. Paraguay soccer match.
Reflecting on their relationship, which began last summer following Perry’s separation from Orlando Bloom, the couple made their official red-carpet debut in June during the premiere of her concert documentary. During the event, Perry spoke candidly about her connection with the former leader, describing him as “the love of my life.” She added, “I tend to reach great heights, and sometimes I need an anchor. Being with him makes me feel truly whole.”
“Watch It Burn,” which arrived on June 25, has already made a significant impact on the airwaves, entering the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay chart at No. 38. With this latest release, Perry continues to solidify a storied career that boasts an impressive 36 entries on the Billboard Hot 100.
