Justice Selects Amyl and the Sniffers as Their Favorite New Australian Band

Amyl and the Sniffers’ blistering energy has resonated far beyond punk circles — even electronic heavyweights are taking notice. Among them is French duo Justice, who have been effusive in their praise for the band.

Justice are currently touring Australia to promote 2024’s Hyperdrama, the duo’s first full-length since 2016’s Woman. On the eastern leg of the run, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay are joined by Kevin Parker — the creative force behind Tame Impala — who performs DJ sets as DJ Tame Impala and is opening several shows.

Parker’s contributions to Justice’s recent material have been fruitful: the pair’s collaboration “Neverender” from Hyperdrama earned the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording at the 2025 ceremony — Parker’s first Grammy and Justice’s fifth.

“It’s a big mystery how Kevin has only one Grammy,” Augé says with a laugh.

The pair first encountered the sounds of Tame Impala in the late 2000s and say Australia’s musical ecosystem left a lasting impression. “We often wonder why Australia keeps producing great music,” Augé told us over Zoom. “Maybe physical isolation helps artists develop a distinct perspective — there’s less of the immediate global noise.”

Right now Australia is experiencing a surge in electronic dance music — artists like Dom Dolla, Ninajirachi, Luude and FISHER are prominent examples — but De Rosnay admits Justice remain fond of Amyl and the Sniffers’ raw rock intensity. “To be honest, we’re more into Amyl than the electronic scene,” he concedes.

That enthusiasm is mutual. Amyl and the Sniffers dominated much of 2025: they played Glastonbury, received a BRIT Award nomination, collected four ARIA Awards, and earned their first Grammy nomination for the following year. Frontwoman Amy Taylor also branched into electronic territory this year with “you’re a star,” a collaboration with Fred Again..

Asked about Justice’s next record, Augé jokes, “Purely on the statistics, I’d predict the next album around 2048.” Whatever the timetable, the duo promise their shows are meticulously crafted. “The show is about execution,” De Rosnay says. “We hope audiences find it thrilling, unpredictable and fresh — things they haven’t heard or seen before.”

Produced by TEG, Justice launched the Australia leg of the tour on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. Upcoming dates include Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on Friday, Dec. 5 and Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday, Dec. 7 — the tour’s final date, capping a 21‑month international run.
