Jujutsu Kaisen’s Latest Episode is a Stunning Action Showcase Highlighting a Genius Sorcerer

Megumi Fushiguro has remained a cornerstone of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen since its inception. His role as the story’s primary deuteragonist was solidified the moment he witnessed Yuji Itadori’s transformation into Sukuna’s vessel, establishing a bond of profound mutual loyalty. The third season has steadily escalated the tension through Kenjaku’s lethal Culling Game, an ordeal Yuji and Megumi intended to face as a united front. However, fate intervenes, separating the duo upon entry and forcing the young sorcerers to rely solely on their own wits. Episode 10 of the current season serves as a masterclass in Megumi’s tactical brilliance during his clash with Reggie Star and his cohorts, featuring some of MAPPA’s most fluid and visually striking combat choreography to date.

Earlier episodes depicted Reggie attempting to sway Megumi to his side, operating under the theory that Kenjaku’s true endgame will only be revealed once the weaker participants are eliminated. Episode 10 begins with Megumi confidently revealing that a new rule allowing point transfers is imminent—a direct result of Yuji’s successful negotiation with Hiromi Higuruma. When Megumi demands that Reggie’s team surrender their points, the tentative truce evaporates. A sudden ambush throws the scene into chaos: after Megumi thwarts an assassination attempt by Chizuru Hari, Iori Hazenoki launches an explosive detached eyeball, triggering a violent blast. A subsequent detonation leaves Megumi scorched as Reggie and Iori coordinate their efforts to overwhelm him.

Although Megumi manages to dispatch Chizuru and claim five points following the rule update, he remains cornered by the combined might of Reggie and Iori. These sequences are a marvel of kinetic animation, as Megumi seamlessly cycles through his shikigami to maintain momentum. He understands that survival in such an asymmetric conflict requires a level of pragmatism bordering on ruthlessness; he must eliminate threats with surgical precision to rejoin his allies. This high-octane tension is punctuated by the arrival of Fumihiko Takaba, a failed stand-up comedian recently awakened as a sorcerer. MAPPA utilizes this shift to lean into absurd humor, employing exaggerated character movements and crude visual styles to highlight the sheer eccentricity of Takaba’s presence.

Once Takaba lures Iori away, the episode’s most significant narrative beats begin to unfold. MAPPA’s partnership with season 3 director Shota Goshozono has yielded spectacular results, blending elevated artistry with a nuanced interpretation of the source material. The triumphant Maki Zenin episode was clearly not an outlier, as the season continues to hit emotional and visceral highs. The duel between Megumi and Reggie is particularly impressive, meticulously setting the stage for one of the manga’s most inventive encounters.

Reggie’s innate technique, Contractual Re-Creation—allowing him to materialize the physical contents of receipts—manifests as a relentless assault. Megumi, already straining his cursed energy with summons like Max Elephant, is forced to rely on his analytical mind rather than raw power. This battle highlights Megumi’s greatest strength: his ability to identify patterns and exploit environmental loopholes. Much like his previous encounter with Kirara Hoshi, where he decoded the Southern Cross technique through spatial awareness, Megumi uses every disadvantage to his advantage. Reggie, too, proves a formidable strategist, showing that his technique is only as dangerous as the intellect of the one wielding it.

The episode reaches its crescendo as Megumi activates his incomplete Domain Expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden. He reveals that he intentionally led Reggie into a gymnasium, using the enclosed building to compensate for the domain’s lack of a proper barrier. As Reggie struggles to adapt to the shifting terrain, Megumi offers a cool reminder that he is far from exhausted. While the bulk of the in-domain combat is reserved for episode 11, this cliffhanger solidifies Megumi’s status as a top-tier threat who should never be underestimated.

Throughout this season, Megumi has provided Yuji with the motivation to move beyond his paralyzing guilt and toward a renewed sense of purpose. While some might argue Megumi is underplayed in traditional battle-shonen terms, Jujutsu Kaisen is far more compelling when its characters are treated as complex, flawed individuals rather than mere vessels for powerscaling debates.
