Journalists Confirm Villain in James Gunn’s Superman Sequel — ‘The Man of Tomorrow’
Superman and Lex Luthor will be forced to unite when a shared menace emerges.
According to The Wrap, the principal villain of The Man of Tomorrow — the sequel to the 2025 Superman film — will be Brainiac, a techno-organic alien intelligence that harvests entire civilizations as specimens for study.
The sequel’s story brings Superman and Lex Luthor together, compelling them to cooperate in order to confront this new threat.
To date, Brainiac has not appeared in a live-action Superman feature, despite being regarded in the comics as one of Superman’s most powerful and consequential adversaries. Reporters suggest that his introduction in The Man of Tomorrow could pave the way for a larger-scale project — potentially a film on the scale of the Justice League.
The Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2027. James Gunn returns as both director and screenwriter. David Corenswet (Superman) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) will reprise their roles.
