Renowned for his roles in the Ice Age franchise and The Odyssey, John Leguizamo has joined the cast of the upcoming Miami Vice reboot, as reported by Deadline.

Leguizamo is set to portray the leader of a drug cartel in the film, titled Miami Vice ’85. He joins an impressive ensemble cast that includes Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez.

The original Miami Vice first captivated television audiences in the 1980s, following the exploits of partners Crockett and Tubbs as they navigated the dangerous world of Florida’s drug trade. The franchise was later adapted into a high-profile 2006 feature film directed by Michael Mann.

This latest iteration will be helmed by director Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick and F1. Michael Mann will serve as a producer, while Dan Gilroy (Andor) has penned the screenplay. The movie is slated for a May 19, 2028, release, with production scheduled to commence later this year.

Leguizamo recently wrapped production on a new The Exorcist film alongside Scarlett Johansson. He is also set to reprise his iconic voice role as Sid the Sloth in the sixth installment of Ice Age, which arrives in theaters in February 2027.
