The 2026 FIFA World Cup reached a spectacular crescendo as global icons Jennifer Hudson, Robbie Williams, and an array of music superstars took the stage to kick off the championship match.

Moments before the referee signaled the start of the high-stakes clash between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium, Jennifer Hudson captivated the massive audience with an evocative, theatrical performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Standing on a navy-carpeted stage flanked by a sea of American flags, the EGOT-honored powerhouse artist wore an elegant white gown adorned with striking red, white, and blue detailing. The moment unfolded under the watchful eyes of U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who observed the festivities from a private suite.

In the lead-up to the event, FIFA organizers emphasized that the pre-match ceremony was designed to honor the remarkable journey of the 48 competing nations, culminating in a “special rendition” of the national anthem by Hudson.

Following Hudson’s vocal performance, the musical showcase continued with Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger, and Laura Pausini, who collaborated on the official FIFA anthem, “Desire.” Clad in matching cobalt attire, the trio delivered an energetic performance at the center of the pitch, surrounded by a vibrant ensemble of flag bearers from across the globe.

The ceremony took a cinematic turn when Hollywood legend Tom Cruise graced the field to deliver an impassioned address regarding the unique ability of soccer to bridge international divides. “As we arrive at this final chapter, let’s honor a tournament that has bridged the world,” the star proclaimed. “This is the spirit of football. This is our unity. This is true greatness.”

The national pride continued as Argentine artist Maria Becerra took the stage to perform her nation’s anthem, dressed in a signature blue-and-white ensemble. The Spanish anthem was brought to life by the talented musicians of Spanish Brass.

The day’s festivities were marked by a high-energy lineup, including an appearance by streamer IShowSpeed and a hit-laden set from Post Malone, who debuted fresh material before teaming up with Swae Lee for their chart-topping anthem, “Sunflower.”

The championship experience was further elevated by a blockbuster 11-minute halftime production. Curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the show featured superstar performances from BTS, Justin Bieber, Madonna, and Shakira.
