Seventy days after its theatrical premiere, James Gunn and David Corenswet’s Superman lands on HBO Max this week, arriving on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Corenswet shared the news via an Instagram selfie showing the film featured on the streamer’s homepage, playfully tagging co-star Sara Sampaio in an Eve Teschmacher–referencing post. Gunn amplified the announcement on X, and Warner Bros. issued a press release confirming the release and outlining a themed DCU takeover of the HBO Max interface.

To celebrate the streaming debut, HBO Max will adopt a special Superman motif across its homepage: Daily Planet–style artwork, a Fortress of Solitude hub curating related titles, and hidden portals that transport users into a Lex Luthor–themed “Pocket Dimension” offering personalized recommendations.

Superman has already shattered summer milestones — not only posting the biggest opening for a Man of Steel film, but also reaching the Two Million Watched Letterboxd milestone in just 45 days. While reaction to Gunn’s take on the character and the film’s conclusion has been mixed, the movie has nonetheless established a strong foundation for DC’s rebooted universe; Peacemaker season 2 is one of the early follow-ups building on that momentum.

The studio has confirmed a follow-up titled Man of Tomorrow, which will again star David Corenswet as Superman with Nicholas Hoult appearing as Lex Luthor. Gunn has said this will be a standalone picture rather than a direct Superman 2. Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to begin principal photography in 2026 and is set for a theatrical release on July 9, 2027.

Until then, Superman will be available to stream on HBO Max beginning Friday, September 19, 2025.
