James Gunn Says Peacemaker Season 2 Finale Will Address Major Fan Complaint

Reaction to Peacemaker season 2 has been largely favorable — viewers and critics alike have applauded the performances and the season’s narrative beats. Still, one recurring complaint has intensified as the run continues: episode lengths that feel increasingly brief.

Audiences have recently called attention to the shrinking runtimes. The seventh episode, “Like a Keith in the Night,” clocked in at only 28 minutes of new story (not counting the recap, opening titles, or end credits), making it the shortest entry so far. On social feeds, showrunner and DCU head James Gunn acknowledged fans’ frustration and assured them the finale will be substantially longer.

“You’ll be happy to know next week’s episode is over 57 minutes long,” Gunn wrote on Threads in response to a disappointed viewer. He confirmed that the upcoming episode will nearly double the runtime of episode 7.

It’s not yet clear how much of that 57-plus minutes will be devoted to fresh story versus recurring elements like cold opens, recap montages, and end credits. Even with those standard components, viewers can reasonably expect roughly 45–50 minutes of new material — a considerable improvement over episode 7’s trimmed runtime. (Longer doesn’t automatically mean better, but many are eager for a denser, more substantial finale.)

Gunn has also hinted that the finale will do more than close the Peacemaker arc: he teased it will gesture toward the wider DCU trajectory and function as something of a prelude to his next Superman film, Man of Tomorrow. Episode 8, the series finale, is titled “The Full Nelson.” Fans will have to wait to find out whether the finale confirms the many theories swirling around the DCU’s next move.
