Jack Antonoff Voices Strong Opposition to AI in Music Creation

Jack Antonoff is pulling no punches when it comes to the rise of artificial intelligence in the music industry. The Bleachers frontman took to Instagram on Wednesday, May 13, to share a candid perspective on the growing trend of AI-generated compositions.
In his post, Antonoff lamented the loss of craftsmanship, describing the traditional songwriting and recording process as an “ancient ritual” that is currently under threat. “You no longer have to write music, record it, or hit the road to perform it,” he remarked, highlighting the disconnect between automated convenience and the soul of artistry.
He didn’t hold back in his critique of those embracing these technological shortcuts. “For us, the idea of optimizing our creative process completely misses the point of what drives us in the first place,” Antonoff wrote. He offered a blunt challenge to those excited by the prospect of synthetic creation, suggesting that if they prefer faking art, they should proceed on that path, but he remains firmly committed to authentic, human-made music.
The producer, known for his frequent advocacy regarding industry equity, noted that the pressure to adopt these tools is largely driven by individuals disconnected from the actual artistic experience. He emphasized that the up-and-coming musicians he interacts with are overwhelmingly uninterested in any creative output that doesn’t originate from genuine human emotion.
Antonoff’s stance is consistent with his history of outspokenness. He has previously been a fierce critic of monopolistic practices within the live concert sector and has frequently mocked corporate failures in the ticketing industry, including a recent jab at Ticketmaster’s claims regarding scalper mitigation.
