Isaac Rouse Cast as Young James Bond in Silverfin Adaptation
Ian Fleming’s James Bond is returning to the cinema with a feature film directed by Denis Villeneuve. The project is currently known as Bond 26. Casting is underway as producers search for an actor to succeed Daniel Craig, who retired from the role in the 2021 film No Time To Die after five franchise appearances.
Before the next big-screen movie arrives, another version of the character debuted on Thursday, Oct. 29. Actor Isaac Rouse took on the role in the audio drama release Young Bond: SilverFin.
Bond returns to his SilverFin era
Ian Fleming published 10 James Bond novels and short story collections before the first film adaptation, Dr. No, reached theaters. After Fleming’s death in 1964, writers such as John Gardner, Raymond Benson, and Sebastian Faulks continued the literary series. In 2005, author Charlie Higson launched the Young Bond spin-off.
The first Young Bond novel, SilverFin, also debuted in 2005. It followed James Bond’s early years at Eton College, where the future spy makes a terrifying discovery that threatens to unleash a new breed of warfare. That novel has now been adapted into the full-cast audio drama Young Bond: SilverFin. The creators describe the project as Bond’s first deadly adventure in the Scottish Highlands, where a sinister secret awaits beneath the waters of Loch Silverfin.
Isaac Rouse, known for The Crown and Get Even, stars as James Bond. The cast also features Charlotte McBurney as Wilder Lawless, Miriam Margolyes, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Raison, Paterson Joseph, William Hope, and author Charlie Higson. The SilverFin audio drama spans 16 half-hour episodes across two volumes.
Rouse has additional source material available for potential future adaptations. Charlie Higson wrote five Young Bond novels and a short story, and author Steve Cole later added four more books to the series.
Fans recently experienced another younger take on the character in 007 First Light, which follows the spy through training and early missions as an MI6 agent. Patrick Gibson portrayed James Bond in that project.
Listeners can find Young Bond: SilverFin at the Big Finish website, which makes the first episode available for free.
What’s next for James Bond?
The 26th James Bond film will be written by Stephen Knight, who created Peaky Blinders and wrote Eastern Promises. Denis Villeneuve will direct, and Nina Gold will serve as casting director. Amazon MGM Studios has not yet revealed who will inherit the role from Daniel Craig, but reports indicate the studio has created a shortlist of potential Bonds.
The reported candidates for the new James Bond include:
- Jack Barton, known for Netflix’s Heartstopper and Steven Knight’s SAS: Rogue Heroes, who is reportedly a surprise favorite
- Jack Lowden, who stars as River Cartwright in the Apple TV Plus spy thriller Slow Horses
- Callum Turner, who recently appeared in the World War II miniseries Masters of the Air
- Jacob Elordi, who gained recognition in Netflix’s The Kissing Booth before moving into dramatic projects such as Euphoria, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars
- Paul Mescal, who earned an Academy Award nomination for Aftersun and starred in Gladiator II and Hamnet
- Harris Dickinson, who has appeared in Triangle of Sadness, The Iron Claw, and Babygirl

An official casting announcement for the next cinematic 007 is expected soon.
