Is the “extraction-shooter” genre becoming toxic? Developers removed mention of evacuation from Canyons’ Steam page

With the new promo, the game has received an updated description.

The team behind Breathedge recently released a new trailer for their project, Canyons. Players noticed that the game’s Steam page description has been revised.

The short description currently reads:

Canyons — a third-person action shooter set in a procedurally generated world. Fight mysterious “Revived” creatures in cooperative play for up to four players or venture alone, pilot massive Crawlers, establish a settlement, and conquer this unforgiving landscape.

The SteamDB record still holds the previous description — the game was originally presented explicitly as an extraction shooter:

Canyons — an extraction shooter viewed from a third-person perspective, set in a procedurally generated post-apocalyptic world. Fight for your life in four-player co-op or solo, command gigantic Crawlers, build a refuge for survivors, and dominate this wild world!

Meanwhile, later passages of Canyons’ Steam description still note that you’ll need to return to base at certain points:

However brave a crusader you may be, eventually you’ll have to return home.
