Iman Commemorates the 10th Anniversary of David Bowie’s Passing With a Heartfelt Tattoo
Supermodel and fashion icon Iman is preserving the legacy of her late husband, David Bowie, through a poignant new piece of body art marking a decade since his departure. On Saturday, January 10, she revealed the intimate tribute, which serves as a permanent symbol of their enduring connection.
Sharing a video of the tattooing process on Instagram, the 69-year-old icon reflected on the emotional weight of the date. Bowie passed away in 2016 at the age of 69 following a private health battle. “Jan 10th. The pain didn’t vanish… it left in its place a loving permanent mark,” Iman wrote, finishing the post with the hashtag #BowieForever.
The tribute was accompanied by the atmospheric sounds of “Subterraneans,” a track from Bowie’s seminal 1977 album, Low. While the specific intricacies of the design remained private, the message clearly framed the ink as a testament to a love that transcends time.
The world lost the legendary musician on January 10, 2016, after an 18-month fight with cancer. At the time, his family released a statement confirming he had “died peacefully today surrounded by his family,” requesting privacy as they navigated their immense grief.
The couple’s legendary romance began with a blind date in 1990, leading to their marriage in 1992. They later welcomed their daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones, in August 2000. Throughout the years, Iman has been vocal about her refusal to relegate her relationship to the past.
“I still feel married,” she told People in 2021. “Someone referred to David as my late husband, and I said, ‘No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.’ Through my memory, my love lives.”
Earlier in the week, Iman also celebrated what would have been Bowie’s 79th birthday. She shared a striking monochromatic image of the artist, captioning it: “Happy Heavenly Birthday. Your light burns so bright in all our hearts! We love and miss you.”
Their daughter, Alexandria, now 25, joined in the social media commemorations by posting vintage family photographs. “Da big 79 today,” she shared. “Happy birthday pops, miss ya!”
