IGDA director says video games are a “scapegoat” within the debate about gun violence
The matter of videogame violence obtained unexpectedly heated once more when US president Donald Trump held a White House meeting with recreation trade executives and media watchdogs on the matter within the wake of the college taking pictures at Parkland, Florida. It’s little shock that the trade representatives are firmly in opposition to drawing a correlation between recreation violence and actual violence, and IGDA government director Jen MacLean continues to be reiterating that sentiment.
“The science is crystal clear,” MacLean tells USgamer, “there is no connection between playing video games and gun violence, absolutely none.”
She notes it’s “telling” that with video games being performed around the globe, “the United States is unique in its problem with gun violence. So just trying to make that connection, not only does it not pass the science test, it doesn’t pass the common sense test.”
MacLean provides that “the IGDA believes very strongly and we’ve stated publicly—and will continue to state—that anytime to use videogames as a scapegoat instead of moving forward with common sense gun laws that the majority of Americans want is doomed to fail.”
The IGDA’s official stance has been a lot the since even earlier than the assembly with President Trump, with a robust assertion that video games shouldn’t be used as a “scapegoat.” Instead, they are saying, the issue with US gun violence is overly easy accessibility to firearms.
7/ Making video games-or any type of media-a scapegoat for constantly refusing to even CONSIDER the cheap, rational firearm restrictions Americans need and deserve is not fooling anybody.
