I Asked Vin Diesel for a Sequel to His D&D Movie — He Delivered

After years of fan pleas, Lionsgate has officially greenlit a follow-up to The Last Witch Hunter — with Vin Diesel returning as Kaulder and Michael Caine set to reprise his role. The studio has moved quickly to attach Diesel’s One Race Films to the project, and Caine has agreed to come back after stepping away from the public eye.

The original film, which earned roughly $130 million worldwide during its 2015 run, has built a steady afterlife on streaming platforms; a renewed swell of interest helped justify the studio’s decision to revive the franchise. Insiders say the production will take advantage of modern techniques to deliver a larger-scale sequel while keeping costs manageable.

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, framed the move as a response to sustained audience enthusiasm for the film’s world and characters, and praised the chance to collaborate with Diesel again as they expand the property.

The first installment follows Kaulder, an immortal guardian who preserves a fragile peace between humans and witches in modern-day New York. When his mentor is brutally attacked, Kaulder teams up with a new Dolan (Elijah Wood) and a renegade witch (Rose Leslie) to thwart a scheme to revive the Witch Queen and unleash a catastrophic plague. Whether the sequel will deepen the series’ mythology, tilt toward darker spectacle, or blend magic with inventive, science-adjacent threats remains to be seen. If the studio leans into bold world-building — and if they adopt any of the wilder pitches fans (and critics) have tossed around — this could be a much larger, more ambitious chapter than the original.

Love it or loathe it, The Last Witch Hunter clearly maintains an audience. For many viewers, that enduring appetite is reason enough to give Kaulder another mission.
