House of the Dragon Season 3 Premiere Date Finally Announced

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, now has a confirmed window for season 3 following the blockbuster second season in 2024 — but viewers should expect to wait roughly a year for the new episodes.

“I think it’ll be just outside of [the 2026 Emmy eligibility window],” Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, told Deadline. That timing places the season’s premiere no later than May 31, 2026, roughly mirroring the late-spring launch cadence that accompanied season 2’s June 2024 debut.

Showrunner Ryan Condal has promised that season 3 will be “goddamn massive.” He added that, as production progresses, the scale of sets, costumes, extras and sequences has exceeded their expectations — a clear indication the upcoming chapters will surpass season 2 in scope.

The Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which was originally slated for 2025, has been rescheduled and is now set to premiere in January.
