New Line Cinema is officially moving forward with a sequel to David F. Sandberg’s terrifying debut, Lights Out, nearly a decade after its initial theatrical run. Connor Osborne McIntyre has been commissioned to write the script. The original creative engine—producer Lawrence Grey, director David F. Sandberg, and screenwriter Eric Heisserer—will all remain involved as executive producers for the new installment.
Joining the production effort is James Wan’s Atomic Monster, bringing additional genre expertise to the project.
While a potential sequel has been in a state of flux for years, alternating between active development and creative stasis, there is renewed hope that this revitalized team will successfully guide the film into post-production.
The original 2016 film resonated with audiences by focusing on a malevolent supernatural entity that could only manifest and strike from within the shadows.
