Hideo Kojima Reveals His Ten Must-Have Items
Hideo Kojima, one of today’s most prominent game designers, told GQ about ten items he considers indispensable. These possessions reveal his routines, rituals, and creative inspirations.
Among them is the Sony a660 camera — a constant companion that embodies his habit of observing and documenting the world. A Sony Digital Walkman with wired headphones, plus vinyl records and CDs, are essential too: music acts for Kojima as an emotional archive that shapes the mood and pacing of his work. He also prizes a wristwatch and coffee — reportedly drinking up to seven cups a day.
Small comforts appear as well: ultra-thin cotton swabs and a perfume atomizer for personal comfort, while art and film catalogues serve as a wellspring of ideas. He never travels without both regular and sunglasses, and a scarf that accentuates his style and accompanies him on trips, interviews, and shoots.
