Being predestined to trigger the apocalypse doesn’t strip Hellboy of his capacity for life’s simpler pleasures, including romance. While fans of the Guillermo del Toro films recall his bond with fellow BPRD agent Liz Sherman, creator Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Love series delves into the demon’s relationship with archaeologist Anastasia Bransfield—and a brand-new one-shot arrives next week.
Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes follows the duo as they venture to a quiet English village in December 1979 for a peaceful getaway with former BPRD colleagues Archie and Margaret. Naturally, tranquility is short-lived; the couple soon finds themselves entangled in a supernatural investigation, tasked with laying a local spirit to rest in the village of Coventry.
This latest installment is penned by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, featuring evocative artwork by Alex Nieto and lettering by Clem Robins. Below, you can catch a glimpse of the preview pages, highlighting the pair’s arrival as well as the hauntingly beautiful cover art by Nieto.
Anastasia first emerged in the novel Hellboy: The Lost Army, also written by Golden. Originally introduced as an ex-flame, her connection to Hellboy has been chronicled across various tales that blend macabre supernatural threats with intimate character beats. Previously, the two-part arcs Goblin Night and Shadow Theater, along with the The Key To It All one-shot, were compiled in a 2023 hardcover collection.
Discover the outcome of Hellboy and Anastasia’s latest investigation when Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes hits comic shop shelves on Wednesday, April 29.
