Hearts of Iron IV Dev Corner – Military Production

Greetings, everyone! I’m Zwirbaum, a Game Designer for Hearts of Iron, and once again, it is my turn to step into the developer corner spotlight.
Without further ado, let’s dive straight into today’s main topic: Military Production. True to form, I’ll kick things off with a touch of mystery and a few questions for you to ponder:
-
Military production relies on an abstracted pool of factories. This means you can seamlessly reassign them to whatever equipment you urgently need, and no matter how your industry fluctuates, your highest-priority production lines are always the last to shut down.
- Do you enjoy this mechanic, and if so, what stands out to you? Conversely, what aspects do you find lacking?
-
Currently, all military factories are entirely uniform and interchangeable, capable of producing any piece of military equipment you desire.
- How do you feel about this universal approach to manufacturing, where every factory is a blank slate?
-
How much does geography factor into your industrial placement? Do you strategically tuck your factories far away from potential frontlines, push them forward, or ignore location entirely in favor of maximizing local construction bonuses like infrastructure and dams?
- Do you feel these factors provide enough strategic depth, or would you prefer a more intricate decision-making process for factory placement?
That’s all from me for this week. Thank you for reading, and until next time—farewell!
