Hello everyone!

Your friendly neighborhood ImaginedPanda here, content designer for Heart of Iron, bringing you the latest installment of the Dev Corner. In today’s diary, we are diving deep into economic turmoil—or more specifically, how I stopped worrying and learned to love the Great Depression.

As you may have gathered from previous updates, we are currently re-evaluating our industrial and economic mechanics. On the content team, our main goal is to make the narrative side of these systems more historically grounded, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to play through. Naturally, that led us to examine the single most defining economic catastrophe of this era as our primary case study.

Right now, the Great Depression is represented across various nations as a broad global phenomenon. Traditionally, we have translated these massive systemic crises into National Spirits laden with heavy debuffs, which players simply work off by progressing through a handful of focus tree steps. Lately, however, our team has been exploring alternative ways to handle these monumental challenges, looking beyond standard focus-time investments to find more immersive integration.

We want to hear your thoughts on this! How do you feel about starting a campaign saddled with severe economic penalties, and how would you prefer to overcome them? Do you prefer rushing to purge these debuffs as quickly as possible, or could you see yourself leaning into the struggle to unlock greater rewards down the road?
