Hearts of Iron IV: Celebrate 10 Years With Us

Greetings, Generals!

It has been one week since our latest launch, and our team is fully immersed in post-release support. Yesterday, we deployed version 1.19.1, which serves as our initial balance adjustment while simultaneously addressing several pressing technical issues. Currently, we are developing update 1.19.2, scheduled for release prior to our summer hiatus. This upcoming patch will introduce the first wave of core networking optimizations, specifically designed to refine and stabilize your multiplayer experience.

While the launch went smoothly from a technical perspective, we recognize that the reception did not quite align with our expectations. We acknowledge that the current balance state remains somewhat volatile, but we are committed to refining it. We are already planning an open beta later this summer, which will focus on a more comprehensive, holistic approach to balancing the game.

As highlighted in our Anniversary Video—did you make it to the final frame?—we are preparing to return with a fresh series of “Dev Corners.” Our team is incredibly eager to jump back into those discussions with you.

Additionally, it is my pleasure to introduce our new Game Director, Laszlo. He will share a few words below. Furthermore, we are collaborating with several content creators on upcoming interviews, providing you with a closer look behind the scenes at our studio. We look forward to sharing those features once they go live.

— Gorion, Studio Manager

Hello everyone. It is a genuine relief to finally be able to discuss this openly. As Gorion mentioned, I am Laszlo. I have been a part of the Paradox family for two and a half years, and I have dedicated nearly nine years of my life to game development.

To clear things up immediately, many of you may already know me on the forums as PDX_Batya. It is a true honor to accept the mantle of Game Director for Hearts of Iron IV. Stepping into this role is a significant challenge, especially following in the footsteps of Dan and Peter. I still reach out to them for guidance, which has been invaluable in ensuring that the original spirit of the game remains intact as we move forward.

While a shift in direction naturally leads to an evolution of vision, it remains my priority that Hearts of Iron IV retains the core identity that so many of us fell in love with over a decade ago. It is a remarkable title that honors the historical gravity of the era while captivating millions—whether they are driven by historical curiosity, competitive ambition, or the occasional chaotic alternate-history path.

A central pillar of my philosophy is maintaining an open, honest dialogue with this community. While it may sound like a cliché, your feedback—both large and small—is essential to our process. Even when we cannot respond to every individual comment, please know that we are actively listening to the broader conversation. Ultimately, I believe that game development is a collaborative effort, not only among my talented colleagues here at the studio but also in partnership with all of you.

My goal is to continue supporting this game with high-quality content for as long as you are enjoying it, and I fully intend to see that through. I look forward to connecting with you on the front lines, and I will do my best to address your questions. Keep an eye out for those upcoming community interviews!

Until next time,

— Batya, Game Director, Hearts of Iron IV
