The K-pop community was sent into a tailspin on Tuesday, March 10, as ENHYPEN officially transitioned from a septet to a six-member ensemble. The sudden announcement of HEESEUNG’s departure has left the group’s dedicated fanbase, ENGENE, in a state of collective bewilderment.
The shift followed a formal statement from BELIFT LAB, the HYBE-owned label, revealing that the 24-year-old powerhouse would be “parting ways” with his bandmates after a six-year tenure to focus on individual projects. While HEESEUNG shared a heartfelt letter on Weverse explaining that he chose to embrace “the direction suggested by the company” to prioritize his solo artistry, many fans remain skeptical about the autonomy of the decision.
Skepticism intensified as fans highlighted recent interactions that seemed to contradict the “long-planned” narrative. “Just two days ago, Heeseung mentioned their plans to return to Europe. What could have possibly changed in 48 hours?” one fan questioned on X, posting a clip of the artist discussing future international performances.
The sentiment across social media has been one of heartbreak and confusion. “It feels incredibly abrupt; how does an announcement of this magnitude happen on such a whim?” remarked another follower. Many listeners are struggling to understand why solo ambitions necessitated a complete exit from the group. “Why can’t both paths coexist? ENHYPEN simply won’t be the same without his presence,” voiced a distressed supporter.
In a rapid show of solidarity, ENGENEs launched a massive petition on Change.org, advocating for Heeseung to remain a member while pursuing his solo music. The movement gained massive traction, securing over 200,000 signatures within the first five hours of its launch.

Since their 2020 debut, ENHYPEN—consisting of HEESEUNG, JUNGWON, JAY, JAKE, SUNGHOON, SUNOO, and NI-KI—has seen a meteoric rise. Just months prior to this shakeup, the group celebrated a career milestone by topping the Billboard Top Artist chart following the release of THE SIN : VANISH, which moved 113,000 units in its opening week.
Despite the separation, HEESEUNG’s Weverse statement was filled with gratitude. “These six years have been an overwhelming and precious journey,” he shared via translation. “I cherish every moment we spent together and will continue to be ENHYPEN’s most vocal supporter.” He further explained his departure by noting a desire to share his personal creative vision without allowing his “individual greed” to hinder the collective progress of the group.
