He-Man has the power, but can the new live-action movie truly deliver?

After nearly four decades since their last live-action outing, He-Man, Skeletor, and the legendary warriors of Eternia are set to reclaim the big screen in 2026. Amazon MGM Studios has finally unveiled the debut trailer for Masters of the Universe, offering a long-awaited glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine as the titular hero and Jared Leto as his iconic nemesis, Skeletor.

The cinematic preview delivers a barrage of high-stakes reveals, showcasing live-action interpretations of beloved characters such as Man-at-Arms, Evil-Lyn, and Beast-Man for the first time in this ambitious reboot.

The official synopsis from Amazon MGM describes an origin story centered on a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who is stranded on Earth after a spaceship crash and separated from the magical Power Sword—his only tether to Eternia. Two decades later, Adam recovers the artifact and is propelled back across the cosmos to defend his home against Skeletor’s tyrannical forces. To save his people, Adam must unlock the secrets of his heritage and transform into He-Man, the most formidable champion in the galaxy.

Directed by Travis Knight (known for Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings), the film features a screenplay by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Missing Link).

The star-studded cast alongside Galitzine and Leto includes Idris Elba as Duncan (Man-at-Arms), Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. The ensemble is rounded out by Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Björnsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto, and Morena Baccarin portraying the Sorceress.

The Masters of the Universe legacy began in 1982 with Mattel’s groundbreaking toy line, which quickly spawned the iconic 130-episode animated series. While the original show only lasted two seasons, it created a massive cultural footprint, leading to spinoffs like She-Ra: Princess of Power and recent Netflix revivals.

The new feature film is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026. Fans can also look forward to a new interactive experience with the upcoming beat-’em-up video game, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, set to arrive shortly after the movie.

Following the massive cultural impact of Barbie, Mattel Films has pivoted toward a comprehensive cinematic universe based on its portfolio. Beyond Eternia, the studio is currently developing projects based on Hot Wheels (directed by Jon M. Chu), View-Master (written by Phil Johnston), Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots (starring Vin Diesel), and a Magic 8 Ball film produced by M. Night Shyamalan.
