The emerald light is finally flickering to life. DC Studios and HBO have officially pulled back the curtain on the debut trailer for Lanterns, the highly anticipated series now slated to hit streaming platforms this August. While the legendary oath promises that no evil shall escape their sight, it seems fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the Green Lantern Corps in action.
This gritty reimagining stars Kyle Chandler as the seasoned Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as the disciplined John Stewart. Diverging from the typical cosmic scale of the source material, this HBO series adopts a “true crime” aesthetic, grounding the heroes in a small-town Nebraska murder mystery. The partnership is far from harmonious; Jordan appears to be a reluctant mentor at best, firmly reminding his younger counterpart that his authority remains absolute as long as he’s alive. This internal friction is further exacerbated by local law enforcement, who are far from thrilled about having intergalactic peacekeepers meddling in their jurisdiction.
Jordan and Stewart represent two of the most iconic figures in DC history. While Hal Jordan is a comic book heavyweight—despite the lingering shadow of the critically panned 2011 film—John Stewart holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up watching the Justice League animated series in the early 2000s. By pairing them, the show looks to bridge the gap between classic lore and fan-favorite interpretations.
Audiences will actually get a taste of the Green Lantern Corps even before the series premieres. Nathan Fillion is set to bring his signature charm to the role of Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s Superman next summer, a role he will briefly reprise in Peacemaker Season 2 before appearing in the Lanterns series itself.
Looking ahead, the DC Universe is preparing for a massive theatrical expansion. 2026 will see the arrival of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring Milly Alcock in the lead role alongside Jason Momoa as the mercenary Lobo, currently scheduled for a June 26 debut. This will be followed by a darker turn in October with the release of Clayface, starring Tom Rhys Harries. Finally, the Man of Steel will return to the spotlight in the sequel Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for July 9, 2027.
