Quality control in some digital stores is baffling. Is it really that hard to prevent outright scams from being listed on their virtual shelves? Just in February, Steam and Google Play were selling a free fan-made mod titled Blood on the Streets under the guise of San Andreas Unity, which recreates GTA: San Andreas using the Unity engine. The dubious nature could have been suspected merely from the screenshots posted by the “developers”.
Even when the scam was exposed, the Chinese fraudsters continued to play their role as “project creators”. They apologized to purchasers (about 10 people in Steam), promised to refund in poor English, and hoped for the community’s support for their future creation.
On March 7th, the “game” was removed from Steam, where it stayed for about a week and half. It lasted somewhat longer on Google Play — approximately a month.
