In 2022, the $70 price tag for a video game became the norm. Inflation, increased production costs, etc.—there’s always enough explanation. However, with the release of GTA 6 next (or perhaps the following?) year, prices for virtual entertainment might rise again.
Kotaku believes that “GTA 6” might be the first game to cost more than seventy bucks. The real question is whether Take-Two will limit the price increase to just ten dollars, or will they go even higher, perhaps over $80? The CEO of the rights holder provides no specifics regarding the future hit’s price. However, the fresh memory of the RDR 1 port example, priced at $50 fourteen years after release, serves as a benchmark.
Michael Douse, head of publishing at Larian Studios, the creators of the Divinity series and the currently popular Baldur’s Gate 3, in his thoughts on pricing policy, suggests that industry representatives are waiting for GTA 6 to increase the prices of their own products.
