Gerard Butler to Play a Sniper at the World Cup

Actor Gerard Butler has secured the lead in a gritty new action thriller. According to Deadline, he is set to portray a lethal sniper in the upcoming feature film “The Nest.”

The plot follows the protagonist as he receives a chilling anonymous threat over his radio: a mysterious assailant intends to execute a terrorist attack during the FIFA World Cup. As a sniper, he must pull out all the stops to protect his family in the stands, while simultaneously safeguarding 70,000 unsuspecting fans from disaster.

The film is being produced by Thunder Road, the powerhouse studio behind the “John Wick” franchise. “The Nest” is slated to be shopped to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Butler was most recently seen in the sequel to “Greenland,” and he is also set to star in the drama “Dante’s Code,” hitting theaters this summer.
