Gerard Butler Returns in a Post‑Apocalyptic Sequel We Never Saw Coming

Ric Roman Waugh returns with the post-apocalyptic sequel Greenland 2: Migration, arriving next year. The newly released trailer makes it clear the Garrity family’s struggles are far from over.

In the 2020 original, Gerard Butler’s John Garrity — together with his estranged wife Allison and their son Nathan — fled Atlanta after fragments from an interstellar comet peppered Earth. Racing against a ticking clock, the family fought to reach secure underground bunkers in Greenland and, against tremendous odds, survived.

That first film closed with a sliver of hope: scientists suggested the atmosphere might recover and life could eventually stabilize. Greenland 2: Migration, set five years later, dashes that optimism. The trailer hints that the planet’s weather remains catastrophic and that fiery debris still plummets from the sky.

Life in an underground shelter has taken its toll. John, Allison, and Nathan are frayed by confinement, and morale across the bunker has deteriorated. Survival alone no longer satisfies them — they want to breathe clean air and drink clean water again. According to those running the facility, a chance to rebuild a livable existence might exist.

Where is this promised refuge? Deep in southern France, inside the enormous crater left by the comet impact. The mission is straightforward in concept but perilous in practice: travel from Greenland to France while dodging radiation storms, raining fireballs, treacherous rope bridges, and countless other hazards.
