Gang of Dragon is being built from scratch and promises “human drama” — Yakuza creator

Toshihiro Nagoshi, the mastermind behind the Yakuza franchise, is currently developing a new project titled Gang of Dragon. According to the creator, “every single component is being conceptualized and constructed from the ground up.”

In a New Year’s greeting posted on the studio’s official website, Nagoshi shared:

The fervor and dedication of our global fanbase have provided an incredible amount of encouragement for our entire development team.

Gang of Dragon is framed as an gritty “human drama” focusing on outcasts living within the authentic streets of Tokyo’s Kabukicho district.

Everything, from the urban landscape to the core gameplay mechanics, is being forged from scratch. We are fully committed to delivering a title that we can proudly present to players across the globe.

Action star Ma Dong-seok, renowned for his roles in “Train to Busan” and “Nameless Gangster,” will portray the protagonist. His character, Shin Ji-son—a member of a Korean crime syndicate—will forge “profound human bonds that lead him to re-examine his own life’s mission.”

Gang of Dragon promises a mix of visceral melee combat, diverse weaponry, gunplay, and drivable vehicles with extensive modification options. While an official launch window has yet to be confirmed, Nagoshi remains optimistic that 2026 will be a year “filled with exceptional gaming experiences for the entire community.”
