Fourth Puella Magi Madoka Magica Movie to Screen in IMAX for First Time in Franchise History
The continuation of Rebellion will arrive in theaters 13 years later.
Studio SHAFT has revealed a new poster for Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie – Walpurgisnacht: Rising and confirmed its premiere for August 28. The film will be the franchise’s first project released in IMAX format.
Walpurgisnacht: Rising continues the events of Rebellion, which was released back in 2013. The new film is described as both the conclusion of the previous story and the start of a new chapter.

The core creative team of the series has returned for the sequel. Akiyuki Simbo serves as chief director, Yukihiro Miyamoto directs, and Gen Urobuchi from Nitroplus once again wrote the screenplay. Ume Aoki is responsible for the original character designs, Junichirou Taniguchi adapted them for animation, and Yuki Kajiura composed the music.
Aoi Yuuki, Chiwa Saitou, Kaori Mizuhashi, Eri Kitamura, Ai Nonaka, Kana Asumi, and Emiri Katou will also return to their respective roles.
The film’s path to the screen has taken several years. The sequel was announced back in 2021 and was originally scheduled for release in 2024, but the premiere was repeatedly delayed due to production circumstances. International theatrical release dates have not yet been announced.
