Former Rockstar Developer Urges Fans to Calm Down Over GTA 6 Leaks

Ahead of an expanded showcase of Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix, discussions surrounding recent leaks of the game continue across the gaming community.

Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij has urged players not to attach too much significance to the Grand Theft Auto VI leaks.

Last week, a group or individual operating under the pseudonym CyberLeek published alleged GTA 6 materials, including gameplay clips and map imagery. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, subsequently issued subpoenas to Microsoft, Discord, and GitHub regarding the circulation of “stolen content.” The legal filings confirmed that at least part of the shared information was genuinely tied to Rockstar assets.

Vermeij still views the reaction as heavily exaggerated. He called on everyone to “calm down” and described the leaks as a “dud.”

According to the former Rockstar developer, the studio intentionally maintains tight control over its projects and protects details longer than other publishers. Vermeij noted that, in this instance, a small batch of materials simply surfaced before its intended release.
