Hideki Kamiya is notorious for his lack of filter when addressing the gaming community on X (formerly Twitter).
The legendary creator and former lead on the Resident Evil series recently lashed out at leakers who have begun revealing plot details for the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem. Expressing his absolute disdain, Kamiya remarked that those who distribute spoilers deserve “a thousand deaths.”
Kamiya, the visionary behind iconic titles such as Bayonetta, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe, began his journey at Capcom as a systems planner for the original 1996 Resident Evil. He later took the helm as the director of Resident Evil 2 and contributed his design expertise to Resident Evil 0.
His outburst follows an official plea from Capcom, asking fans to ignore and refrain from circulating leaked gameplay footage of Resident Evil Requiem. The company acknowledged that significant narrative spoilers have started appearing across social media and forums, most notably on Reddit.
While amplifying Capcom’s message, Kamiya reflected on his own past frustrations, specifically citing an incident where a major plot twist in Resident Evil 2 was prematurely exposed by a weekly magazine prior to the game’s release.
The veteran developer argued that those who leak information for “selfish, ego-driven gratification” show a total lack of respect for the players’ anticipation and the immense labor of the creators who invested their hearts and souls into the project.
