Finneas is set to bring his sonic expertise to Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Beef. The streaming giant announced on Thursday (March 12) that the two-time Academy Award winner has been commissioned to compose the original score for the show’s highly anticipated second season.

The reveal comes roughly a month before the new season’s premiere on April 16. This installment marks a fresh chapter for the anthology series, introducing a completely new cast and narrative arc. Reflecting on the creative process, Finneas shared that he spent the better part of a year immersed in the project. “I’ve spent the last 12 months in the world of Beef,” he stated, expressing his appreciation for creator Lee Sung Jin and the “incredible performances” delivered by the new ensemble.

“I likely reviewed every individual scene a hundred times while composing the music, and the emotional impact never faded,” Finneas added. “As a genuine fan of the series, I am deeply honored and proud to contribute to its legacy.”

Showrunner Lee Sung Jin echoed this enthusiasm, describing Finneas as the “brilliant mind” behind much of his own personal soundtrack over the last decade. “It is an absolute privilege to collaborate with him this season,” Lee remarked. “He possesses an extraordinary gift for making the darkest, most complex emotions sound achingly beautiful. I’m eager for the world to hear what he has crafted.”

Beef first made waves upon its 2023 debut, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. The inaugural season followed two strangers whose lives spiraled out of control following a volatile road-rage incident. The show became a major awards contender, securing nine Primetime Emmy nominations and winning five, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, alongside lead acting trophies for both Wong and Yeun.

The upcoming season features a star-studded lineup including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Seoyeon Jang.

Widely recognized for his era-defining production work with his sister, Billie Eilish, Finneas is no stranger to the world of film and television scoring. His portfolio includes the score for the 2021 drama The Fallout, as well as his own solo discography, most recently highlighted by 2024’s For Cryin’ Out Loud! Alongside Eilish, he has secured two Oscars for Best Original Song for their contributions to Barbie and the James Bond film No Time to Die, in addition to their work on Pixar’s Turning Red.
