Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Announces Big Changes to Hard Mode
Seasoned players who relish a challenge often raise the difficulty the moment they begin a new game. That option wasn’t open to those playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, where fans had to reach the credits before a tougher mode became available. According to series director Naoki Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will break from that pattern.
Hamaguchi has spent nearly ten years guiding the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project. Under his direction, FF7 has reached new heights, and he has earned such admiration from fans that some have even suggested he take the helm of Final Fantasy 17. He is set to keep refining the series until its conclusion with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on April 8, 2027. The game overhauls Hard Mode with several important tweaks, chief among them the ability to activate it from the very beginning.
Hard Mode Is Available From the Start in FF7 Revelation Thanks to Its Substantial Post-Game Content
FF7 Remake and Rebirth built the groundwork for Revelation, giving the trilogy room to grow and mature in its final installment. The revamped map made that evident, yet the improvements go further. In Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Hard Mode is less restrictive: item bans are gone, which means players can assemble whatever kind of build they like. Strategy still matters, but so does creative freedom. Best of all, the mode is accessible from the outset, sparing fans from completing an entire playthrough just to unlock it.
Hamaguchi explained that the decision stems from the wealth of post-game content that opens up after finishing Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Had Hard Mode been locked behind the ending, players might have felt torn between beginning a fresh run at their preferred difficulty and racing through the post-game material.
That wasn’t the only detail Hamaguchi shared. Those who want a well-balanced experience from start to finish will be glad to hear that Dynamic Mode returns in Revelation. This setting adjusts enemy strength to match the party’s current level, so players can roam the world and immerse themselves in side quests without growing overpowered and trivializing certain encounters.
As in earlier entries, players will most likely be able to switch difficulty in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, though doing so will require restarting the current chapter.
