Enthusiasts Find Unusual Way to Run Steam Games on PS5 Without a PC
Enthusiasts have found a way to run some Steam games, including Cyberpunk 2077, on a jailbroken PS5. The project carries risks for your account and your saves.
A launcher called Playden for PS5 has appeared for jailbroken consoles. It lets users run Steam games directly on the Sony console, without streaming from a PC.
An enthusiast who goes by leolobato developed the project, which is based on Playden for macOS. Users sign in with a QR code, pick games from their library and download them. Each game then appears as a separate tile on the PS5 home screen. The app works without installing Linux and uses a port of Wine and DXVK.
Development is moving quickly. Version 0.5.0 added Direct3D 12 support through VKD3D-Proton. Cyberpunk 2077, Hollow Knight, Cuphead and Deep Rock Galactic are already marked as “playable.”
The latest builds also support importing games over USB and FTP, a 120 Hz mode and 4K resolution.

The PS5 is not yet a full replacement for a PC. Older and indie games work best, while games with kernel-level anti-cheat or extra launchers such as the EA app often fail to run.
The experiment is also unsafe. The Steam token is stored without encryption, and errors can overwrite cloud saves.
